Schauffele broke his Majors duck at the US PGA Championship in May and is 12/1 to add the Claret Jug to his collection at the Ayrshire course.

A player celebrated for his consistency, there is little surprise to see him high in the market just a couple of weeks before he defends his Olympic title in Paris.

There is often debate about who is the best golfer never to have won a Major and Schauffele definitely entered the equation before he got over the line in this year’s US PGA, when he beat Bryson DeChambeau by one shot.

There was a sense that success was just around the corner and after he subsequently finished tied for seventh at last month’s US Open, he has now claimed a top-20 finish in each of his last nine Majors – he is 7/10 to do that again this week and 29/20 to bag a top-ten spot.

However, his record at the Open is not as solid as his results have been in the Stateside Majors.

He finished 17th at Royal Liverpool last year when a second-round 74 took him out of the reckoning, while his best performance came when he was tied for second at Carnoustie in 2018.

Schauffele possesses the accuracy and strong tee-to-green game to flourish on his Royal Troon debut and recent results have been encouraging.

He has finished in the top 25 in each of his last 13 tournaments, a run that has included eight top-tens, with second places attained at the Players Championship and the Wells Fargo Championship.

A finish in 15th at last week’s Scottish Open was a decent warm-up and he can be expected to produce good things in Ayrshire.
